Pens Made From 50,0000 Year Old Wood
The Ancient Kauri wood aged through a natural preservation process by climate changing conditions over 50,000 years ago. In New Zealand the ecosystem of a Kauri tree forest (considered to be a type of conifer) changed into a bog like environment. Preservation occurred due to silt and water prohibiting decay. These trees grew in the forest for approximately 1,200 years before the environment changed. This type of ancient wood is not petrified; although other petrified specimens have been found. The only known source of Ancient Kauri wood is New Zealand. Going Green for the DeskThese wooden writing pens offer more than just elegant writing; they offer an ecologically friendly tool for the desk or office. The handcrafted wooden pens are re-useable, a keepsake that will last a long time. Using long lasting pen bodies with refillable ink will cut down on the waste of cheap plastic pens that are not considered recyclable in some regions. The handcrafted pens are environmentally friendly, right down to the way that the ancient wood is excavated. Since these are not living trees there is no harvesting. Retrieval of the ancient kauri wood is achieved through land excavation which is returned to its natural state.
The pens offer a little bit of geologic history in a ecologically friendly writing implement. This extraordinary wood is now being handcrafted into many things including writing pens. Fountain pens, ballpoint pens as well as roller ball styles are being offered from Trinity River Studios. More product information can be found in the Trinity River Studios online catalog.
