The Freedom Pen program is an all volunteer effort originated by the members of the Saw Mill Creek Woodworkers Group.
They organized a network of volunteer businesses, groups and individual pen turners who sponsored and produced over 30,000 hand crafted pens. Last Oct 23, 2004, Naomi personally turned over 40 beautiful writing instruments that were sent to our overseas military who were in harms way. These excerpts are from several communications that were directed to sponsors and personally to Naomi. Wanted to drop you a note of thanks for your time, thoughts and efforts in participating in the Freedom Pen Project. I guess it's kind of like tying a note to a balloon and wondering where it will land and who will find the note. You'll be happy to know I found your note. One of our chaplains passed me a beautiful wooden pen last night at a BBQ we held to help my folks relax a bit. I appreciate your time and effort to build the pen - it fits perfectly in my flight suit pocket and now has a good home. Where did your pen end up? I work at the Multinational Force - Iraq Headquarters, just outside of Baghdad. I am the liaison from the Commander of all air forces in Iraq (USAF, Navy, USMC) to General Casey, the commander of all coalition forces in Iraq.R. S. Meyer, Col, USAF Dep Dir, ACCE - Baghdad, Iraq
